Biography of Asafa Powell
Asafa Powell, the youngest of six children born to Reverend William and Cislyn Powell, was born on November 23, 1982, in Spanish Town, Jamaica.
Initially, he had plans to become a mechanic before seriously pursuing a career in sprinting during his time at Kingston. Asafa represented his school, Charlemont High School, in the inter-school championships. On April 11, 2001, he finished fourth in the 1200m race with a time of 23.07 seconds and a headwind of 1.7m/s.
Early Career
Asafa Powell was a member of the 'Maximising Velocity and Power' track club located at the University of Technology in Kingston, where he trained under the guidance of Stephen Francis.
